session fees

insurance

I do not participate directly in any commercial insurance plans, which means you pay your full session fee by the time of each service.

I am happy to provide clients with the necessary receipts they can use to submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Depending on your insurance plan, you may find that my services can be partially or fully reimbursed this way.

You can learn more about your mental health coverage by calling your insurance company and asking:

  • Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?

  • How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider per session?

  • What is my deductible for out-of-network benefits and have I met it

  • How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?

  • Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see a mental healthcare provider out-of-network?

  • How do I submit claims for out-of-network reimbursement?

  • Are virtual outpatient mental health visits (or telehealth) covered?

Fees & insurance faqs

  • My priority will always be my clients’ privacy and their access to the highest quality care my training and expertise can provide.

I have witnessed how insurance companies have made it difficult for providers to maintain these priorities, particularly in the realm of confidentiality and autonomy. This shows up in the form of frequent requests for the personal records of clients, placing constraints on the number and type of sessions clients can attend with coverage, inaccurate, slow, or nonexistent reimbursements, and attempts to influence or dictate treatment.

Being an “out of network” provider allows us to keep decisions about the nature, course, length, and focus of treatment between us.

  • Yes! I reserve a number of spots in my caseload for reduced fee sessions. If my rates are out of range for you, please reach out so we can discuss my sliding scale availability.

As you approach the question of the session cost you can afford, I will ask that you consider your holistic financial situation, identity-based privileges, and access to financial support from your network. Paying my standard rate if you’re able allows me to continue to offer sliding scale options and pro bono therapy to those in your community who need it.

  • Payment is due by the time of our appointment.

  • Most clients opt to keep a credit card on file through a secure client portal, which allows automated charges to go through the day of each session. I also accept check, cash, money orders, and HSA/FSA cards.

  • Under the No Surprises Act, patients who don’t have insurance or who are not submitting claims to their insurance for either in- or out-of-network coverage are entitled to request an estimate of the cost for non-emergency medical items. This “Good Faith Estimate” explains the cost of care over the course of treatment.

Because my practice does not participate with any insurance plans, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges at any time during treatment.
